SWIRL Enterprise 4.2: Bringing AI Search to the Kingdom of Search

SWIRL Enterprise 4.2: Bringing AI Search to the Kingdom of Search

You’d be forgiven for thinking it’s a little strange—maybe even pointless—to bring AI-powered search to Google Workspace.

After all, this is Google. The company whose name is synonymous with search. Trying to enhance Google with better search feels a bit like installing sprinklers in a rain forest. But here’s the thing: while Google’s public web search is peerless, Google Workspace is something else entirely.

Enterprise data—emails, calendar entries, contacts, shared documents—is messy. It’s personal. It’s fragmented. And it doesn’t behave like the open web.

That’s where SWIRL Enterprise 4.2 steps in.

This release adds full support for Google Workspace, including Gmail, Calendar, Drive, and Contacts, all with OAuth2 authentication and optional OIDC auto-provisioning for seamless identity management. Your agents, your assistants, and your teams can now securely search across Google Workspace data without indexing, duplicating, or waiting for a sync cycle to complete.

And yes, that’s on purpose. SWIRL doesn’t crawl and copy. It searches data where it already sits—in real time—and uses AI to organize, deduplicate, and rank the results by relevance. That means faster answers, better context, and none of the risk or latency of bulk data movement.

Internal search ≠ Web search

The web is designed to be indexed. Enterprise data isn’t. Your email attachments aren’t linked. Your calendar invites aren’t tagged. And your shared Drive folders probably have filenames like Q3_final_FINAL2.pdf.

Google Workspace search is fast—but it isn’t built for cross-system context, RAG augmentation, or AI agents needing structured information across multiple silos. SWIRL is. When you ask a question like, what were the last three contract updates from our partners at BioTech Labs?, you don’t want 50 results—you want an answer, with citations, permissions enforced, and context preserved. That’s what SWIRL delivers.

New in 4.2: the SWIRL MCP server

SWIRL 4.2 ships with a new MCP server, deployable as a proxy, and fully equipped with authentication support. If you’re building workflows in Crew.AI, N8N, or Microsoft Power Automate, this is the bridge you’ve been waiting for. The server exposes SearchProviders, AIProviders, and other key objects as resources, and serves both AI Search and AI Search Assistant APIs as tools.

No more complicated bridging logic or hardcoded API connectors. Just configure and go.

Assistant updates: History, editing, and export

In this release, SWIRL AI Assistant gets an interface overhaul, adding ChatGPT-style chat history displayed on the left. Users can now edit, rename, and resume conversations—all without losing context or historical memory.

For teams working in compliance-heavy environments or simply wanting to archive key decisions, chat sessions can now be exported directly to PDF for sharing, printing, or secure storage.

These changes make SWIRL’s assistant more usable, more persistent, and more enterprise-ready than ever.

Smarter search, smarter instructions

We’ve added a new instruction field to AI Search. This allows users (or workflows) to send direct instructions to the RAG LLM, giving it more control and precision over how responses are generated. Whether you’re looking for a concise summary, a bullet-pointed action plan, or a formal report-style answer, the instruction field lets you tailor the behavior of the agent without touching the prompt.

The smaller things (that make a big difference)

SWIRL 4.2 isn’t just about major features. It includes numerous under-the-hood improvements and interface refinements, including:

  • A new Helpdesk link under the information icon in both Search and Assistant
  • Updated branding controls, allowing different logos for Search and Assistant views
  • A revised OIDC configuration format for better identity management
  • A fully restyled Password Reset page for better UX and accessibility
  • Python 3.12 validation, ensuring future-forward compatibility

Unify without migrating

Let’s end on the most important point: SWIRL doesn’t force you to centralize your data. SWIRL unifies your knowledge without moving any of your information.

You don’t need a new data lake. You don’t need to reformat everything into vectors. You don’t need to bet your architecture on a tool just to see if it works. SWIRL searches data where it lives, using what you already have—Google Workspace, SharePoint, Veeva, Confluence, Salesforce, file shares, legacy databases, you name it.

With SWIRL Enterprise 4.2, your agents and your users can now reach further, think faster, and act smarter—without breaking anything or waiting for a pipeline to finish syncing.

That’s not just enterprise-ready. That’s search, evolved.
